en Plein Air and Studio Oil Paintings
A Journey of Artistic Discovery
All of my life I have been surrounded by creative people, encouraged from a young age I have enjoyed the creative process. My most recent art journey has lead me to focus on painting the Missouri landscape “en plein air”, the French term for painting in open air. Reacting to each scene with an emotional response I focus on using color and simplified brush strokes in oil paint. I believe this journey will help me discover my own style of painting.
With the support of family members and good friends I have pushed myself to produce more than 400 oil paintings in the last 3 years. By keeping the format fairly uniform and small, primarily 9” x 12”, I have been able to finish most paintings “alla prima” or all in one sitting, giving them a fresher appearance. I have learned so much and evolved as a painter by doing these quick studies. This next season I plan exploration of larger studio paintings in tandem with my small plein air work. I anticipate great joy on my future journey of artistic discovery. I hope my paintings bring you as much pleasure when viewing them as they brought me creating them.
